The Children’s Book Bank has won an INTERNATIONAL AWARD!!

We are very excited and proud to announce that The Children’s Book Bank has won the prestigious IBBY-Asahi Reading Promotion Award. The award is chosen by the International Board on Books for Young People and is sponsored by the Japanese newspaper company the Asahi Shimbun.

As the Canadian nominee, The Book Bank competed with groups from around the world and was judged by a jury panel from Japan, Spain, France, Egypt, Mexico, USA and Slovakia. The jury selected the Book Bank as one of this year’s two winners, “because it is a very simple system of book recycling, which, in addition to getting books into the hands of children, effectively uses the skills of retired teachers and librarians. This idea has the possibility to be expanded and replicated in many places.”

We are grateful to all of you who have donated your time, your books and your money to make this award possible. Thank you and CONGRATULATIONS!!
